SPELLBINDING PIZZA & PASTA AT ENCHANTED
Enchanted Pizza and Pasta in Parklands, Cape Town was founded and established by the Goddess of Pasta and Cakes (Dianne) and the Queen of Pizza’s and Ice-cream (Rochelle). These two special ladies had started up a business out of Rochelle’s home where she had a Pizza oven and were feeding their passion to produce wonderful pizza and pasta combinations when the popularity of their creations far exceeded anyone’s expectations and inevitably culminated into this special and inviting dining establishment located in the heart of Parklands, Cape Town.
Garth and I were delighted to be invited by Dianne for our first visit and taste of the deliciousness we had heard so much about.
The restaurant is lit with the most beautiful chandeliers which can be set to soft, mood lighting or bright and light. The decor is warm, cosy and inviting with two gorgeous statement chairs setting the tone on arrival and the pictures of the owners on the wall expressing their fun and loving bond of friendship.
The Pizza oven located towards the back of the restaurant is generous in size and one get’s excited thinking of the gooey, cheesy goodness that is to come from out of it’s glowing, red embers.
No other drink would suffice for us other than red wine here due to the Italian (though not traditionally) roots of this eatery and so Garth ordered a bottle of Cloof Estate Duckitt Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot / Cabernet Franc, a red blend with rich red and black berry tasting notes and a dark intense ruby red colour. Deliciously full bodied.
But let’s get to the food, Dianne recommended we try a variety of three and recommended the following for us:
The Mussels served in a Cream, Garlic, White Wine and Fresh Herb Sauce – a delicously creamy and moreish dish served with Crispy Bruschetta.
The Salmon Bruschetta – Smoked Salmon served with creme fraiche, capers and thinly sliced red onions – this flavour combo was a revelation! The salty capers, the smoky salmon and the mild, Creme Fraiche with the slight pickle of the red onion, heavenly!!
Our unexpected favourite by a long shot was The Brown Mushroom – stuffed with onion, spinach, garlic & feta in a homemade Napolitana Sauce fired in the Enchanted oven! Need I say more, delicious gooey, cheesy and tomato-ey perfection.
For our mains, we had selected a pasta dish namely The Alfredo – Ham and Mushrooms served in a Rich Cream and Wine Sauce, over a bed of Homemade Tagliatelle. The pasta is light and perfectly cooked and the sauce is decadent and rich with the fresh herbs a fragrant and delightful addition.
Next up we decided on some pizza, the first being The Blue Cheese – Bacon, Blue Cheese & Rosemary, dressed with preserved fig. The pizza base and crust is undoubtedly one of the best we had sampled in a long time.
Crispy and flavourful, satisfying but not too heavy. The flavour combination was unctuous with the blue cheese not dominating but enhancing the salty, smoky bacon and sweet preserved fig.
The Salmon Pizza – Baby Spinach, Smoked Salmon sprinkled with Capers and dressed with fresh Dill and Cream Cheese was decidedly one of my favourite meals of the night. The quality of the smoked salmon and the quantity thereof was surprisingly generous and we felt spoiled!
The great service and bright smile of our waitron, Cecilia paired with the hospitality of owners Dianne and Rochelle and the delicious Italian style fare of Enchanted Pizza and Pasta makes this restaurant a must visit.
